Kalonji or Kalojeere, also
known as black cumin or black caraway and botanically known as Nigella sativa,
is a widely distributed flowering plant that is native to the south and
southwest of Asia.
The seeds of kalonji, also
known as black caraway or "Karun Jeeragam" in Tamil and "Nalla
Jeelakarra" in Telugu, are taken from the fruits of the Nigella sativa
plant. These seeds are frequently referred to as black onion seeds in a few
regions of the world. The "fennel flowers" of the Kalonji plant,
which has divided, thin, sequential leaves and grows to a height of between 20
and 30 centimeters, are white and pale blue in color and contain five to ten
petals.
This plant's fruit has a
large, inflated capsule-like structure with three to seven united follicles
containing numerous seeds. These tiny, sharp-cornered black seeds have a
pungent, bitter flavor and aroma that may frequently evoke associations with
oregano, black pepper, and onion.
Kalonji seeds, known as the
"seed of blessing," are widely used in traditional medicine and
cuisine for their medicinal properties and distinctive flavor. These seeds are
a key component of ayurvedic medicine and are widely used to treat stomach,
eye, heart, and neurological conditions.
These seeds contain linoleic
and oleic fatty acids, volatile oils, crude fiber, amino acids, saponin, iron,
sodium, calcium, and potassium, respectively. Nigella and Melatin are two
components prized for their highly nutritive and medicinal properties in these
black seeds. Black seeds are high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, which help
regulate cholesterol, balance insulin levels, improve blood flow throughout the
body, and support liver function.
Due to its anti-carcinogenic
properties, Ayurveda recommends consuming 20 grams of these seeds daily to
improve joint lubrication, keep the heart healthy, treat breathing issues, and
prevent cancer.
Kalonji seeds are rich in fat,
protein, carbohydrates, and dietary fiber. Vital minerals like calcium,
phosphorus, iron, sodium, and potassium, as well as essential vitamins A, C, E,
and K, are abundant in the seeds, helping to maintain heart health, a healthy
liver, and an improved immune system.
Black caraway seeds, which are
primarily prized for reducing weight and burning belly fat, actually top the
list of spices that are the healthiest. There are numerous ways to use kalonji
seeds to reduce belly fat. According to studies, taking kalonji water on an empty
stomach has significant weight loss benefits.

beauty treatments.
Over the course of many years,
numerous studies have documented a number of significant findings regarding the
advantages of kalonji oil.
Kalonji Oil Uses:

oil or supplements have been shown to reduce blood levels of inflammatory
markers, which helps heal swollen joints.
Problems with the nose and
allergies:
A spoonful of Kalonji oil is
all you need to treat severe allergies that are resulting in a persistent cold
and congestion in the chest. Apply lukewarm oil to the chest to relieve
congestion and stop sneezing and a runny nose.

from blackseed oil. Asthma symptoms will improve and asthma attacks will not
occur suddenly if this oil or supplements are taken on a regular basis.
Kalonji Seeds' Advantages:
Diabetes Prevention:
Diabetes prevention is the
primary function of kalonji seeds. These seeds, according to Ayurveda, can
prevent diabetes-related symptoms like excessive thirst, fatigue, and confusion
as well as a sudden spike in blood sugar levels. Kalonji oil, seeds, or
supplements taken on a regular basis not only raise fasting blood sugar, but
they also cause insulin resistance.
To lower blood sugar levels,
drink a cup of black tea with a quarter teaspoon of Kalonji oil on an empty
stomach.
Relieves Stomach Wounds:
Because they eat into the
mucus lining of the stomach, stomach ulcers can be quite painful. Black seeds,
according to the researchers, not only help prevent stomach ulcers, but they
also protect the stomach lining from alcohol's harmful effects and aid in
digestion.
Guards the Liver:
By regularizing the liver's
functions, such as metabolism and the processing of vital nutrients and
minerals, the incredible components and compounds in kalonji protect the liver
from toxicity. Kalonji oil or seeds should be taken every day to protect the
kidneys and liver from chemical toxicity.
Cuts Down on Inflammation:
Inflammation that persists
over time can hinder bodily functions and cause a variety of health problems.
The active ingredient in Kalonji, thymoquinone, aids in the reduction of
pancreatic inflammation. Kalonji oil is taken in moderation every day according
to Ayurveda to reduce inflammation.
Reduces Blood Pressure:
One of the main risk factors
for heart disease is LDL, or bad cholesterol. Using kalonji oil significantly
lowers LDL (bad cholesterol), while using kalonji seed powder raises HDL (good
cholesterol), according to a National Institutes of Health study.
Anticancer Characteristics:
Kalonji seeds assist in
neutralizing free radicals, which can lead to a variety of cancers. They are a
storehouse of antioxidants. Thymoquinone's anti-cancer effects target
pancreatic, lung, cervical, and breast cancers by inactivating cancer cells.
Prevents Bacteria:
The antibacterial properties
of kalonji oil and seed powder make them effective against certain kinds of
bacteria. The skin heals and becomes less red when Kalonji oil is applied
topically to an infection caused by streptococcal bacteria. Additionally, it
protects diabetics from infections caused by staphylococcus aureus, a
methicillin-resistant bacteria.
Enhances Memory:
Senior citizens struggle with
memory loss and cognitive impairment. Ayurveda advises taking mint leaves and
kalonji oil or seed powder to improve memory and prevent neurological diseases
like dementia and Alzheimer's.
Kalonji oil or seed powder can
be added to a fistful of fresh mint leaves that have just been boiled in water.
For improved brain function, consume it daily on an empty stomach.

honey, and warm water taken on a regular basis help improve kidney function and
prevent kidney stones.
Joint lubrication:
By providing lubrication between
the joints, kalonji oil or seed powder is known to relieve joint pain. The
seed's active ingredients make it easier for bone joints to move smoothly,
which reduces inflammation.
Apply 12 teaspoon of kalonji
oil and equal amounts of honey to 1 cup of vinegar twice a day to the joints to
alleviate stiffness, swelling, and soreness in the joints.
Healthy Teeth:
For healthier gums and teeth,
chew a few Kalonji seeds each day. If you are experiencing swollen gums,

teaspoons of kalonji oil or powder into curd and apply it to the gums.

Kalonji works quickly to treat
hemorrhoids, also known as piles, which cause severe pain in the rectal area.
The seed's natural laxative properties make stool bulkier and treat
constipation. To facilitate easier bowel movements, consume black tea and

of Kalonji oil and vinegar, warm it slightly, and apply it to the affected
areas.
Gets Rid of Cracked Heels:
Cracked heels can result from
a variety of factors. Cracks on the sole that look bad and hurt can be caused
by obesity, footwear that doesn't fit right, and lack of moisture. To eliminate
the cracks, apply oil or black seeds powder to the affected area. You can also
massage the sole with lemon juice and kalonji oil. In addition to removing
bacteria, this mixture softens the skin.
